Company History

2001
A privately owned and family run business, we were founded in 2001 when Stephen and Marilyn Hallas perceived the need for a new approach to rubber compounding, in an increasingly demanding market. Their profound belief in ultimate product quality and customer service led to the founding of SPC, a family company specialising in the supply of competitive high tech rubber compounds to the most demanding and often critical applications. Today our products are routinely relied upon in the aerospace and automotive industries, in process industries and in the energy sector. Initially established in Whitby, North Yorkshire, the business began trading as SPC UK. The name rapidly became synonymous with outstanding technical support, product quality and flexibility.

2007
The growth profile of SPC provides testimonial to the success of our business philosophy. This involves making significant and continuous investment steps, including a technical service facility, offering full technical service support and laboratory development and, in 2007, a dedicated FKM line.

2008
SPC achieved a further advance in October 2008, with the acquisition of ATR Compounding in Westbury, Wiltshire. The addition of this second site to the Group has resulted in a threefold increase in production capacity, together with additional competencies and manufacturing capability, representing a milestone in our Company's development and a continued commitment to our customers.

2010
After our landlords in Whitby went into administration, we consolidated our focus on our Wiltshire plant. This included offering relocation packages to our Whitby staff and increasing production in Wiltshire.

2011
After operating our Wiltshire plant as a subsidiary of SPC and under the name of ATR, we consolidated production with £1.5 million of investment, the creation of more than 20 new jobs and a re-branding to recognise the plant as SPC UK.

2013
We acquired IACP JEVSA in Barcelona, significantly expanding our presence in Europe and our place in the world as a leading specialist rubber compounder.

2014
We expanded our technical development centre and opened the SPC Technology School designed specifically to train university graduates. It includes a fully equipped laboratory and compound development facility, which includes new state of the art intermeshing technology using the latest automation and mixer controls. We are now supporting several graduates with tailored individual graduate training programmes.

2015
We unveiled our new logo and branding, representing an evolution in our growth and development.
